Top-7-Common-Sink-Plumbing-Problems

The kitchen is an essential part of the house and an expensive one too. From dishwasher to the refrigerator, kitchens are packed with appliances. If something goes wrong or an appliance stops working, all the work in and around the kitchen gets disturbed, and so our routines.

The most common type of kitchen is linked with plumbing. All sorts of issues can occur and damage not only the sink or floor but also some other damages to the house. These problems can vary from some easy fixes to expensive replacements, however, if you know which is which, maybe you will be able to act in time and call for professional help and prevent the severe damages from happening in the first place, keep on reading to find out all the problems that can occur in the kitchen.

Dripping Faucet

It is hard to find a kitchen that doesn’t have a problem with the kitchen faucet. It seems like a minor issue, and usually, we ignore it as much as we can. However, let me tell you an interesting fact, due to a slow leak like three drops of water per minute, you can lose approx—156 gallons of water over a year. So don’t ignore it, if you can check and identify the problem. If it’s a minor one, you can apply an easy fix yourself; for the more significant issues, you can call a professional plumbing company to fix it. If the leak is occurring from nearby the spout’s base, it might be a damaged O-ring seal. You can replace it yourself or ask for help, depends on you. But going for a fix or even identifying any problem, don’t forget to turn off the water source.

Clogged Drain line

It is the second most common problem that happens to everybody. There are two types; the water is either draining slowly or not at all. If you have a garbage disposal, you are most likely to have this issue. Usually, this is caused by the blockage in the drain; blockage happens if the amount of water used for flushing out the food particles or waste is not enough. However, you can use baking soda, vinegar, or a chemical, although this will solve the problem temporarily it can buy you some time until the professional arrives. Use this solution in case of slow draining; if the drain is completely blocked, don’t pour chemicals in your sink, as the chemicals can create a problem.
Don’t ever mix two or more chemicals, they can form a gas, or another dangerous reaction.

Weak pressure of water in sink tap

Low pressure of water is identified, when the stream of water is trickling instead of gushing. This is commonly due to the mineral deposits on the aerator. Simply remove the aerator and put in a box filled with white vinegar, leave it overnight. This should unlock the calcium deposits common in Florida water supplies.

But if you notice low water pressure even after cleaning the aerator, your issue might be a bigger and complex one. A leak somewhere in pipes around your house can damage the foundation of the house if you see a sudden decrease in the water pressure call in the professional plumber immediately.  Don’t ever ignore these signs as they can cause some serious issues in your home.

Water heating issues

If you are not getting enough hot water or no hot water at all, well, this problem can be caused by many reasons, it could be a faulty thermostat, or the pilot light has gone out, maybe a broken dip tube is a culprit. There is another reason that you are unable to get enough hot water, which is the installation of additional hot water appliances.

Clogged Sink

Kitchen sinks have a trap that look like the letter P; it is commonly called a P-trap. The function of P-trap is to prevent sewer gasses and odors from coming upwards in your kitchen. Gravity is behind its role, but if it gets full with grease or soap, it will clog the sink and soon you will be having leaking issues. You can check the trap using a pipe wrench and a bucket. Place the bucket under it and lose the slip nuts with the help of a pipe wrench.

The issue with Garbage Disposal

Garbage disposal is a highly useful and beneficial appliance; and however, like all the other appliances, they can have some issues as well. Food substances like potato peels, grease, and cornhusks cause a jam sometimes. Usually, the first step is to press the reset button, run some water, then try, and it should work properly. If it doesn’t work, you will need to open it up.
